PUT YOUR $$$ WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS:
We've all heard a version of this saying, but the gist is, you are NOT as good as your word. The real mark of who a person is through their ACTIONS. If you say, for example, "It's so great that there are these small, local businesses that are ethical and trying to make a difference," and then go buy stuff from Walmart, justifying it with the popular phrase, "It's too expensive," then who you really are versus what you say you are is very mismatched.
I say all this not to lecture, merely to educate, to take our immediate gratification brains one step further into the future to examine our world. Our choices, big and small, shape our world; and the small choices, the ones viewed by the masses as irrelevant and thankless are furthest from. Those little choices are the ones that truly make changes.
Walking the beach is a daily nature sanity outlet for myself and as I walk, I undoubtedly see trash. Not tons, but enough for it to be irksome. Enough to remind me there is a floating pile of it somewhere just out of my vision scope, out at sea. It amazes me how few people stoop over and pick up that listless, floating debris. So, I always do, and without fail, I am always watched as if awestruck. I hope something so small registers because, with each small act, changes to our world can be made.
List of the little things you can do to promote change in the great big world...
-Pick up trash (how hard is it to carry over to a bin, really?)
-RECYCLE as much as you can. You would be surprised all the things that can be recycled. Click this link to learn more.
*Fun fact: The EPA estimates that 75% of the American waste stream is recyclable, but we only recycle about 30% of it. (Link to learn more landfill/recycling facts to horrify you)
-Bring your own bags when you go shopping. It sounds obvious, but the amount of plastic bags I still see in use is astounding. We have enough, we don't need companies making more!
-Save Energy, the manufacturing of plastic creates waste in our atmosphere. Don't buy plastic wrapped products, make sure wrappers are recyclable/biodegradable or buy items in the Bulk section (again using your own reusable bags)
-Turn off lights and power down electronics when not in use (all these things are emitting energy, a thing you may not be able to see but that does affect everyone's health)
-Shop local, ethical, fair trade, zero waste companies (put it this way, if you wouldn't want to work there, DON'T shop there! Don't pour money into bad business)
--If you are going to eat meat/seafood products make sure they are 100% organic, grass-fed (for meat) and eco-friendly, wild-caught, low-mercury levels (for fish).
-If you think ethical companies are too expensive but less, more quality products
-Watch the system change from your "little" choices!
Don't be lazy, convenience is what got us into this mess. Those little things you choose to put your energy into are what define you and show what you truly care about. If you need a selfish incentive, consider for a moment a Earth without oxygen (completely toxic air), a water system with more poison in it than minerals, soil depleted from unethical/toxic chemicals used or created from conventional farming; and walking by skyscrapers of trash because we no longer have anywhere to put it that's "out of sight."
It sounds sci-fi I know, but this time is approaching faster than you might think.
AND WE HAVE THE POWER TO CHANGE IT!
Introducing our new line of NOMAD DUFFELS, ART WALLETS, PRODUCE BAGS, cropped tees, tied tank tops and tye-dye shirt dress, to promote our zero waste, pro- minimalist lifestyle mission.
Travelers, environmentalists, and artists alike come together with TOO GRIM. We believe in holding ourselves to a higher standard in order to eliminate waste any and everyday we can through our daily lives.
Our instant- based world makes it seem impossible to avoid the convenience of disposable living. Too Grim bridges the disconnect between idealistic and realistic zero waste living.
As travelers ourselves, it is essential for us to only make items that are durable, easy to use and maintain, as well as versatile to be effective for everyday use.
Take our new NOMAD DUFFELS for instance...
It is a travel bag, a pillow, a laundry bag, etc.
Easy to pack your things into, or pack into another bag for whatever venture you are on.
Everything is made from salvaged fabrics. T-shirts, horse polos, sweaters, dress shirts, etc. Dyed, painted, and stitched together to create something new.
Out ART WALLETS include pockets, recycled t-shirt graphics, and a velcro closure clasp. Ideal storage for your keys, cash, passport, as well as pens and pencils, so no art material will be left behind. These wallets make it easy to carry what you need with you.
The TIED TANK TOPS are for the confident summer lovers who don't want to be inhibited with an excess of fabric on balmy day. Perfect for the beach or an amusement park adventure, just tied one on and go.
This line is meant to amplify the need to rescue our environment by reinventing our meaning of the word new.
We don't know each other and since our little group is pretty anti-social there is little chance we will meet more than this.
I like you already, you help to fuel creative versions of the world. I may not get you but I would like to try. We are dreamers who believe to take everything with a grain of salt. Yes, the picture is pretty but what lies beneath? What is the unspoken secret?
I believe you, to a point.
We like to dig deeper, and find out the full fledged story in this world we inhabit.
Thank you for exploring with us.
We like telling you, even though we've never met.
The Skeptical Dreamers :0)
We can't get enough can we?
The power to rise above the mundane, the usual that bogs us down with worries we know don't actually matter. We are tired and lazy feeling and want that sense of purpose superheros possess and can act on because of their other worldly abilities.
What if I told you that force fields are real devices to be had; and negative energy can be blocked?
Behold the real life superhero moment you have been geeking out for!
The TESLA Pendant.
Tesla, we know the car. Not just that, it's science kiddies. This science Tesla created (in the 1890's) all has to do with energy. Energy is everywhere and is working, moving at all times. All electronics have energy emanating from it, enough to send messages to other countries. And this energy is quite rude to our human bodies; it does not bother to go around us (that would slow down the speed, and we hate that) so it goes THROUGH US!
Are you shocked? I was. How rude and how draining for our little earthly bodies.
So, the Tesla Pendant is made up of minerals that force Electromagnetic currents to GO AROUND YOU when you are wearing them. Like a superhero with a force field.
Think of yourself like a microwave, the electromagnetic currents are heating up your organs and causing your brain distress, making your memory and every other working part of your body less effective because it is always stimulated by energy. The pendant will give your body the rest it needs to regenerate itself.
It's time to have more energy and feel good again. You may not be able to control the amount of technology that is around you ALL THE TIME, but you can control how it affects your body.
For more information watch the video below that explains the benefits of this amazing discovery!
It's not new information but still so few of us know about the ways we can aid our bodies in dealing with this hyper-stimulating world.
Take matters into your own hands!
Winter months are hard, they bring out the survival tactics in you. Hole up, bundle up and conserve precious energy. There is not to waste, your body is fighting off the elements, it needs to use all the nutrients you are ingesting.
But once it hits January you know it's only midway through the season, you can't keep hiding out. So, how do you get moving again?
1. Start small. Go on a walk. Do some yoga. Stretch a little in front of the TV. Just do something.
2. Have a dance party with your peeps. Holidays or not dancing is a mandatory fun form of expression and fabulously good cardio. Get your groove on.
3. Set a timer. After an hour of sitting have your timer go off and DO SOMETHING active. I guarantee you will get addicted to the way moving makes you feel and you won't even want to sit back down and glaze over in Netflix AGAIN.
1 hour mark ideas:
-dance to a song
-re-enact whatever was happening that you were just doing (ex: watching a movie? play out the scene; reading? pick a part and make it a charades game; watching videos on Instagram? do your own interpretation of it)
The point is to keep life fresh and full of new experiences; movement helps invigorate that notion of new stimulating, thoughts. So try it and feel good again.
There are snakes basking in the sun, rolling stones music emanating from the house and an impossible amount of work to do.
"A beast of burden" starts to play.
People come and go with such purpose because they will be venturing, they live out in the country, everywhere is a journey. Everyday there is a reminder to stop and reflect, what is really important? Is time really so mandatory as it portrays itself?
The questions about life's purpose circle your head and you wonder the most obvious question we always choose to ignore, "what am I doing here?"
I personally jump into overdrive when that thought decides to torment me. And there is always endless amounts of things to get done, and time is racing away and suddenly nothing is enough. So why start?
There comes the opposing lack of motivation. The list becomes too long. And racing the sun setting is no joke. Because once it goes another world kicks in. One that makes the agony worth it because work must cease and play must commence. Fire is magic in movement. Fairy dust seems to scatter along the grass emanating from an unknown source. And looking straight up you connect with multitudes of galaxies, our portal out of this world. It all becomes one at night, and everyone comes together after a hard days work. Differences are put aside and connection is the key, for tomorrow we will be at it again. Time will fight us, creatures and elements will battle us, but the stars will guide us when night falls. And the cycle will always continue with or without us. Know your place and your (in)significance, that is the battle that is being waged currently in these worlds.
When I was a kid all I wanted to do was play outside, hang out with my friends, play tag or play pretend.
The operative word being PLAY.
How many of us adults give time for that anymore? What could be more important than letting loose and freeing your mind by expressing yourself with your body?
Sex is one form of play not suitable for children but very beneficial for adults. Running , biking and other activities we used to call PLAY are now called EXERCISE. Why? To give them more legitimacy?
Unfortunately, that takes away all the fun and retains all the work.
So next time you are thinking of a fun, good way to get out and move your body, think, "What would a kid do?"
I'm sure it will lead to some entertaining results...
